2012, end of the world?

2012 is "supposedly" the last date given by the Mayans in their calendar. But the astronomer Philip Plait has stated very clearly that the Mayan calendar does not end in 2012 at all, that it is like the odometer on your car, as each section of the odometer reaches 9 and then clicks over to 0, the next number to it starts a new cycle, so that when all the numbers again reach 0 all the way across the odometer - the last number will change from 1 to 2 and the new cycle starts all over again. So 2012 is the end of one cycle of time and the beginning of another cycle of time.

Nostrodamus predicted that 3827AD would be the end of the world, not 2012.That is 1815 years past 2012! And consider this; the end of the Muslim Calendar is at 2076AD and the end of the Jewish Calendar is at 2240 AD.

NASA is predicting the next/current sunspot cycle to peak in May of 2013. This could disable communications satellites at worst.

Most 2012 Mayan predictions seem to be based upon Western interpretations of the calendar and Mayan drawings as opposed to what the Mayans themselves have ever publicly taught throughout history.

Magnetic pole reversal? Yes, they do happen, but very slowly over tens of thousands of years. To believe that it will happen quickly in 2012 is contrary to all scientific evidence that we have of previous reversals.

Golden Age
It is interesting that the Hindu prediction of the emergence of a new world is prophesied to appear about the same time that the Mayans predicted it to come! The Mayan calendar began with the Fifth Great Cycle in 3114 BC and will end on 21 December 2012 AD. The Hindu Kali Yuga calendar began on 18 February 3102 B.C. There is only a difference of 12 years between the Hindu's beginning of the Kali Yuga and the Mayan's beginning of the Fifth Great Cycle. It is amazing that both calendars began at about the same time over 5,000 years ago and both calendars predict a totally new world and/or golden age after about 5,000 years into their calendars! We are definitely on to something with these Mayan and Hindu 2012 predictions. Historically, this is an amazing fact since these two ancient cultures did not have any contact...Lord Krishna's Golden Age could easily begin in 2012! (Hindu Calendar).

The Hopi prophecy is an oral tradition of stories that Hopis say predicted the coming of the white man, the world wars and nuclear weapons. And it predicts that time will end when humanity emerges into the "fifth world." The Mayan calendar predicts a similar end in 2012; some Hopis have said their prophecy roughly coincides with that time. The tradition says the years after 2012 could be a golden age with humans at peace. It also says the world will go through a time of trial, suffering and purification before a time of "one-heartedness" (Hopi Civilization).

Catastrophies? Global climate change is accelerating causing extremes of heat and cold, floods and drought. Best not to live where you can be affected by floods. Best to break any habits of addictions to processed food and learn to live more simply. Fast ocassionally in case you are forced to fast in the future by food shortages. That way it won't be such a shock to your system. I've done many fasts and I felt so good afterwards because they help to clean out all inner biological and chemical trash.

Oceans rising 20 feet due to polar ice melting? In 1995 the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issued a report which contained various projections of the sea level change by the year 2100. They estimate that the sea will rise 50 centimeters (20 inches) with the lowest estimates at 15 centimeters (6 inches) and the highest at 95 centimeters (37 inches). The rise will come from thermal expansion of the ocean and from melting glaciers and ice sheets. Twenty inches is no small amount -- it could have a big effect on coastal cities, especially during storms.

Epidemics of Microbial Diseases. Already we are faced with superbug bacteria that are resistant to all antibiotics. And there are viruses that can cause epidemics such as Ebola and the avian virus. In times of catastrophe and social upheaval you are much less likely to have access to good medical care. It is best to be independent of the conventional medical system. Well, if you are very alternative you want that anyway. A Beck Blood Electrifier is the very least of medical survival devices you should own. With it you can fight any bacteria or virus. And they can be used to kill any local infection from a cut, etc. It is good also to own a solar powered battery charger and rechargeable 9 volt batteries in case the electrical grid is down for more than 2 months.

Global Climate Change. Yes there is a progressive climate change but not as drastic as some extremists say. Al Gore took the sensalionalist/extremist view in his documantary
"An Inconvenient Truth" but it has since been exposed as mostly an exagerration. [read]

End-of-World Movie scientific errors. "Knowing" showed the world being burned up by a solar flare whereas no heat from solar flares can reach the Earth. And earlier in the movie it was said that the solar flare would destroy the ozone layer which would lead to the extinction of all life. It would, but a solar flare, no matter how strong, cannot destroy the ozone layer. "The Day After Tomorrow" depicted super cold high atmosphere air being funneled down to Earths surface to freeze everything. There is no science in favor of that kind of funnel ever developing, and even if they did the lowered surface temperatures would be very temporary, not so drastic that the USA population needs to move to Mexico. "2012" has the threat of neutrinos from solar flares super-heating the Earths core to spell disaster. But neutrinos don't heat anything up at all and as a matter of fact more than 50 trillion solar neutrinos pass through an average- sized human body every second without doing any harm.

The bible's "end of the world". As to the christian version of the end of the world; for one they rely on a book that is highly flawed. Secondly, the specific question (Matt 24:3) that was asked Jesus was "what will be the sign of your coming and of the close of the age?", not the "end of the world". He then describes the hard times that he believed will be at the end of the age.
